Since 1971, we have campaigned for gender equity and human rights.

Let Us Introduce Ourselves.

The Beginning.

Dorothy Thompson, on behalf of the Zonta Club of Toronto One, came to Brisbane to form the first Zonta Club in Queensland in 1971.

The Roots.

The Zonta Club of Brisbane was chartered on 21 October 1971 and started with 28 women, all trailblazers in their fields.

The Growth.

For more than half a century, the Zonta Club of Brisbane has welcomed hundreds of members and today we number more than 70 women dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women. Our work is ongoing.

Meet Leneen Forde

Our Club had the honour of interviewing former Queensland Governor, Zonta International President and charter member of the Zonta Club of Brisbane, the Honourable Ms Leneen Forde AC.

In this interview, Leneen talks about the challenges she faced as a widowed mum of five, her career transition from science to law and her journey with Zonta that led to the Zonta International Young Women in Leadership Award being named in Leneen’s honour.

Over 50 years of empowering women.

Our Club

Our Board.

The Club Board is elected by the members annually at the Annual General Meeting. The Board takes a leadership role but final decision-making is at the membership level – all important decisions are voted on by members at the monthly club meeting.

Our Members.

Our members come from all walks of life and share a deep passion for empowering women and girls. There’s no limit to what our members do. We have lawyers, accountants, musicians, teachers, social workers, journalists, and every profession you can think of.

Our District.

Our club is part of a network of 43 Zonta Clubs across Queensland and northern New South Wales, and together we form District 22. We unite together to tackle bigger issues and make a meaningful impact in Queensland and northern New South Wales communities.

Our Memories

We have been privileged to know great women who shared our commitment to gender equality. Their work has had a profound impact on the club, and their memories live on in the work we do each day.
